Two electric trains run at the same spee...

Two electric trains run at the same speed of `72 km h^-1` along the same track and in the same direction with a separation of 2.4 kin between them. The two trains simultaneously sound brief whistles. A person is situated at a perpendicular distance of 500 m from the track and is equidistant from the two trains at the instant of the whistling. If both the whistles were at 500 Hz and the speed of sound in air is `340 m s^-1`, find the frequencies heard by the person.

The correct Answer is:
B, D

The person will receive dthe soundin the directions BA and CA making a angle theta with the track.
Here `theta=tan^-1(0.5/2.4)=22^@`
So the velocity of the souce will be `vcostheta` when heard by the observer.
so the apparent frequency received by the man from train B
`f^1=((340+00)/(340-vcos22^@))500`
`=529Hz`
And the apparent frequency heard by the man from Train C,
`f^11=((340+0+0)/(340+vcos22^@))xx500`
`=476Hz

Two trains run at the same speed v = 90 km//h along a strainght track one after the other with a separation l = 2 km . At the instant when they are located symmetrically relative to the point A at a distance b = 1 km form the track, both emit a brief signal of frequency n = 500 Hz . What will be the nature of the sound at A? The speed of sound is V = 350 m//s

A train approaching a hill at a speed of 60 km//hour sounds a whistle of frequency 600Hz when it is distance of 1km from the hill. Wind is blowing in the direction of the train with a speed of 60 km//h Find the frequency of the whistle heard by an observer on the hill:speed of sound in air 1200km/h)

Two trains start from the same point simultaneously and in the same direction. The first train travels at 40 km/h, and the speed of the second train is 25 percent more than the speed of the first train. Thirty minutes later, a third train starts from the same point and in the same direction. It overtakes the second train 90 minutes later than it overtook the first train. What is the speed of the third train?

Two trains are travelling towards each other both at a speed of 90 km h^-1 . If one of the trains sounds a whistle at 500 Hz, what will be the apparent frequency heard in the other train ? Speed of sound in air = 350 m s^-1.
