Mean free path of a gas molecule is

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The kinetic theory of gas assume the gas molecules to be in constant random motion. Because the molecules have finite size, two molecules collide with each other when they come within a molecular diameter of each other. The straight line path of a molecule (or the distance covered by it) between successive collisions is called a free path.
