Verified by Experts

In a step-down transformer, thin copper wire is used for the primary coil. In a step-up transformer, thick copper wire is used for the primary coil. Also the primary coil in a step-down transformer has more number of turns than the secondary coil while the primary coil in a step-up transformer has less number of turns than the secondary coil.
