Calculate the pressure inside a raindrop...

Calculate the pressure inside a raindrop of diameter 2 mm [ surface tension of water = 0.072 N/m]

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Data : ` D = 2 xx 10^(-3) m ,` T = 0.072 N/m ` P_(0) = 1.013 xx 10^(5) N//m^(2)`
` R = D/2 = 1xx 10^(-3)` m
The excess pressure inside the raindrop is
` p-p_(0) = (2T)/R = (2(0.072))/(1 xx 10^(-3)) = 144 N//m^(2)`
The pressure inside the raindrop , P = 101300 + 144 = 101444 N//m^(2)`
