2. This is called one gene-one enzyme hypothesis.
3. It was put forth by Beadle and Tatum after their experimentation on spores of fungus Neurospora crassa.
4. They used mutagenic X-rays to cause mutations in some spores.
5. These spores grew in mutant variety which lacked a particular enzyme.
6. Later their hypothesis was modified by Vernon Ingram and was called one gene-one polypeptide hypothesis.
