Hydrogen gas is not liberated when the following metal is added to dil. `HCl :`

A

Ag

B

Zn

C

Mg

D

Sn

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Only those metals can liberate hydrogen from the dilute acids which have negative value of reduction potentials. Metal like Ag have `+E^(@)` value , their atoms are not in the tendency to lose electrons to `H^(+)` ions of acid. Therefore , `H_2` gas is not liberated.
