A ball is thrown horizontally from a point 100m above the ground with a speed of `20m//s`. Find (a) the time it takes to reach the ground, (b) the horizontal distance it travels before reaching the ground, (c) the velocity (direction and magnitude) with which it strikes the ground.

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C, D

(a) Initial velocity is horizontal. So, in vertical
direction it is a case of free fall.
` t = (sqrt(2h/g)) = (sqrt(2xx100)/10) = sqrt (20) sec.`
(b) `x = u_xt = 20(sqrt20)m`
(c) `v_x = u_x = 20m//s`
`v_y = u_y + a_yt` ltbgt `= 0-10sqrt(20)`
`=-10sqrt(20) m//s`
`v = sqrt(v_x^2+v_y^2) = 49 m//s`
`theta = tan^-1(v_y/v_x) = tan^-1(sqrt5)`.
