Statement I: Frictional heat generated by the moving ski is the chief factor which promotes sliding in skiing while waxing the ski makes skiing more easy.
Statement II: Due to friction, energy dissipates in the form of heat. As a result, it melts the snow below it. Wax is water repellent.

A

Statement I is true, statement II is true, Statement II is the correct explanation for statement I.

B

Statemet I is true, Statement II is true , Statement II is NOT the correct explanation for Statement I

C

Statement I is True, Statement II is False.

D

Statement I is False, Statement II is true

The correct Answer is:
A

Once the ski is in motion, it melts the snow below it and hence skiing can be performed. To make skiing easier, wax has been put on bottom surface of ski as wax is water repellent and hence reduces the friction between the ski and film of water.

In the following questions, each question contains Statement I(assertion) and StatementII(reason). Each questions has four choices a, b, c, and d out of which only one is correct. Statement I: A block of mass m starts moving on a rough horizontal surface with a velocity v. It stops due to friction between the block and the surface after moving through a certain distance. The surface is now titled to an angle of 30^@ with the horizontal and the same block is made to go up on the surface with the same initial velocity v. The decrease in mechanical energy in the second situation is smaller than that in the first situation. Statement II: The coefficient of friction between the block and the surface decreases with the increase in the angel of inclination.

Biosphere is a global ecosystem composed of living organisms and abiotic factors from which they derive energy and nutrients. And ecosystem is defined as structural and functional unit of the biosphere comprising of living and non-living environment that interact by means of food chains and chemical cycles resulting in energy flow, biotic diversity and material cycling to form a stable, self-supporting system Consider the following statements concerning food chains: (i) Removal of 80% tigers from an area resulted in greatly increased growth of vegetation (ii) Removal of most of the carnivores resulted in an increased population of herbivores. (iii) The length of the food chains is generally limited to 3 – 4 trophic levels due to energy loss (iv) The length of the food chains may vary from 2 to 8 trophic levels Which two of the above statements are correct?

A 4 kg block ls placed on top of a long .12 kg block, which is accelerating along a smooth horizontal table at a= 5.2 m//s^(2) under application of an external constant force. Let minimum, coefficient of friction between the two blocks which will prevent the 4 kg block from sliding is mu , and coefficient of friction between blocks ls only half of this minimum value. of, (i.e., mu//2 ). Find the amount of heat (in joules) generated due to sliding between the two blocks during the time in which. 12 kg block moves 10 m starting from rest

Read the given passage and answer the questions. Suhana wanted her house to be white washed, She bought 10 kg of quicklime from the market and dissolved it in 30 L of water. On adding lime to water, she observed that the water started boiling even when it was not being heated. Which of the following statements is correct about the above reaction based on your observations? (i) It is an endothermic reaction. (ii) It is an exothermic reaction (iii) The pH of the resulting solution will be more than seven. (iv) The pH of the resulting solution will be less than seven.

Directions: In the question given below a statements is followed by three courses of action numbered I or (A), II or (B) and III or (C). A course of action is a step or administrative decision to be taken for improvement, follow-up for further action in regards to the problem, policy etc. on the basis of the information given in the statement. you have to assume everything in the statement to be true, then decide which of the three given/suggested courses of action logically follows for pursuing and decide the answer. Statements: The daytime temperatures this summer have been four to five degrees Celsius above the normal temperature across the country. Course of action: I. All the district headquarters should be alerted to send prompt reports of death due to heat waves in their jurisdiction. II. The govt machinery should be put on high alert and provided with necessary equipment to prevent any untoward incident. III. The govt should make necessary arrangements to provide drinking water in all the areas affected due to extreme heat waves. 1) Only I follows 2) Only III follows 3) Only II, and III follow 4) Only I and II follow 5) All follow

Answer the following: a) The casing of a rocket in flight burns up due to friction. At whose expense is the heat required for burning obtained? The rocket or the atmosphere? b) Comets move around the sun in highly elliptical orbits. The gravitational force on the comet due to the sun is not normal to the comet's velocity in general. Yet the work done by the gravitatonal force over every complete orbit of the comet is zero. Why? c) An artificial satellite orbiting the earth in very atmosphere loses its energy grdually due to dissipation against atmospheric resistance, howerver small. Why then does its speed increase progressively as it comes closer and closer tothe earth? d)In fig i) the man walks 2m carrying a mass of 15 kg on his hands. In Fig ii) he walks the same distance pulling the rope behind him. The rope goes over pulley, and a mass of 15 kg hangs at its other end. In which case is the work done greater?
