A `60-kg` woman is on a large vertical swing of radius `20 m` . The swing rotates with constant speed
a. At what speed would she feel weightless at the top?
b. At this speed what is her apparent weight at the bottom?

Text Solution

a. `N - mg =- (mv^(2))/(r )`
To feel weightless at top , `N = 0`
`mg = (mv^(2))/(r )`
`rArr v = sqrt(rg) = sqrt(200) = 10sqrt(2) ms^(-1)`
b.
`N - mg = (mv^(2))/(r )`
`N = m(g + (v^(2))/(r )) = 1200 N`
