The equation of a simple harmonic progre...

The equation of a simple harmonic progressive wave is given by y = A sin `(100 pi t - 3x)` . Find the distance between 2 particles having a phase difference of `(pi)/(3)`.

A

`pi/9` m

B

`pi/18` m

C

`pi/6` m

D

`pi/3` m

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

Given, `y=A sin (100 pi t-3x)`
the general equation, `y=A sin (omega t-kx)`
`:. K =3` and `k=(2pi)/lambda`
or `lambda=(2pi)/k=(2pi)/3`
Phase difference, `phi=pi/3`
`:'` Phase difference `Delta phi=(2pi)/lambda. Delta x`
`(2pi)/lambda.x=pi/3`
or `x=pi/3xxlambda/(2pi)=pi/3xx(2pi)/(3xx2pi)`
Distance, `x=pi/9 m`
