Two Cu wires of radii R(1) and R(2) are ...

Two Cu wires of radii `R_(1)` and `R_(2)` are such that `(R_(1) gt R_(2))` . Then which of the following is true ?

A

Transverse wave travels faster in thicker wire

B

Transverse wave travels faster in thinner wire

C

Travels with the same speed in both the wires

D

Does not travel

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The velocity of a transverse wave,
`v=sqrt(T/(rho A))` and `v prop 1/sqrt(A)implies v prop 1/R`
Because the velocity of wire depend on the radius. So transverse wave travels faster in thinner wire.
