Among LiF and LiI, which is more soluble in water and why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

LiF is more soluble in water. According to Fajans's rule, `F^(Θ)` ion, being smaller as compared as compared to `I^(Θ)` ion, will be polarised to a greater extent. Hence LiF will be less convalent as compared to LiI and hence LiF will be more soluble in water as compared to LiI.
