A body executes simple harmonic motion. ...

A body executes simple harmonic motion. The potential energy (P.E), the kinetic energy (K.E) and energy (T.E) are measured as a function of displacement `x`. Which of the following staements is true?

A

`TE` is zero when `x= 0`

B

`PE` is maximum when `x= 0`

C

`KE` is maximum when `x= 0`

D

`KE` is maximum when `x` is maximum

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

`y = x`
`PE = (1)/(2) m omega^(2)y^(2)`
`KE = (1)/(2) m omega^(2)(a^(2)- y^(2))`
`TE = PE + KT`
`(1)/(2)m omega^(2)x^(2)`
Since `PE` is maximum at `x = 0` and `KE` maximum at `x= 0` therefore `TE` remain constant thoughout the motion.
