A bob hung from the ceileng of a room by a string is performing simple harmonic oscillations. What will be the trajectory of the bob, if the string is cut. When bob is (i) at one of its extreme positions (ii) at its mean position ?

(i) When a bob humg from a ceiling , while prforming simple harmontce motion reaches at one of its extreme position, the bob is momentarily at rest. If the string is cut there, the bob will fall freely vertically downwars under the efferct of gravity. (ii) When a bob hung form a ceileing while performing a simple hormontc motionreaches at mean position, it has maximum horizonatl velcity. If the strig is cut there, the bob will follow a parabliec path as it is is similar to the case of projectile given a horizontal projection.
