The final product obtained in the oxidation of t-butyl benzene with `Na_(2)Cr_(2)O_(7)+H_(2)SO_(4)` is:

A

a.Benzene acid

B

b.`PhCH_(2)COOH`

C

c.

D

d.`CH_(3)COOH`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Due to `(+I)` effect of three `(Me)` group in `t`-butyl group, the benzene is activated and unstable, so the oxidation of the benzene ring tales place. The oxidation not take place because it doesnot have the benzylic `H` atom.

So the answer is `(d)`.
