The composition of a sample of wustite is `Fe_(0.93)O_(1.00)`. What percentage of iron is present in the form of `Fe(III)`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Oxidation no. of `Fe` in wustite is `=(200)/(93)=2.15`
It is an intermediate value in between two oxidation state of `Fe(II)` and `(III)`
Let percentage of `Fe(III)` be `a`, then
`2xx(100-a)+3xxa=2.15xx100`
or `a=15.05`
`therefore` Percentage of `Fe(III) =15.0%`
