The study of specific led Dulong and Petil to conclude that the specific heat of an element is approximatly inversely proportional to its atomic weight. It means if the specific heat of a newly found element is determined, its atomci weight can be estimated quickly. This study was utilised in chemistry by Berzelius in improving his periodic table in which elements were arranged ac cording to their atomic weights.
