A box contains equal number of molecules...

A box contains equal number of molecules of hydrogen and oxygen. If there is a fine hole in the box, then which gas will leak rapidly ? Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

According to Grahm's law of diffusion , the rates of two gases are inversely proportional to square root of their densities.
so, `(r_H)/(r_0) = sqrt((rho_0)/(rho_H)) as, rho_(0)//rho_(H) gt 1`
Therefore, `r_(H) gt r_(0)`, i.e, hydrogen will leak out more rapidly.
