Which of the following expression represents Arrhenius equation ?

A

`k = A exp ((-E_(a))/(RT^(2)))`

B

`k = A exp ((E_(a))/(RT))`

C

`k = A exp (-(E_(a)^(2))/(RT))`

D

`k = A exp (-(E_(a))/(RT))`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

In `1889` Svante Arrhenius showed that the dependance of the rate constant of a reaction on temperature can be expressed by the following equation, now known as the Arrhenius equation:
`k=Ae^(E_(a)//RT)`
where `E_(a)` is the activation energy of the reaction (In `Jmol^(-1))` . R the gas constant `(8.314JK^(-1)mol^(-1))` , T the absolute temperature, and `e` is the base of the natural logarithm scale. Thus, in Arrhenius equation, the factor exp `(-E_(a)//RT)` becomes a diamensionless equatity.
