Nitrogen exits as diamagnetic, diatomic molecule `N_(2)`. The `N_(2)` molecule contanis a triple bond `(N equiv N)` with a short bond length of `1.09Å`.This bond is very stable. Consequently, the dissociation enthalpy is very high `(942" kJmol"^(-1))`. Thus,`N_(2)` is inter at room temperature, though it does react with `Li`, forming the nitride `Li_(3)N`.
