A compound `(X)` having the molecular formula `C_(3)H_(9)N` is insoluble in alkalis The compound `(X)` is .

A

`CH_(3)CH_(2)NHCH_(3)`

B

`(CH_(3))_(3)N`

C

`(CH_(3))_(2)CHNH_(2)`

D

`CH_(3)CH_(2)CH_(2)NH_(2)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Secondary amine reacts with benzenesulphony1 chloride to form N,N-disubstituted sulphoniamide which is insoluble in alkali because it does not have an acidic Hydrogen atom
Notice that a primary amine forms N-alkylsulphonamide which dissolves in alkali while a `3^(@)` amine does not react with benzene sulphony1 chloride .
