Two moles of nitrogen gas is kept in a cylinder of cross-section area `10 cm^(3)`. The cylinder is closed by a light frictionless piston. Now the gas is slowly heated such that the displacement of piston during process is `50cm`, find the rise in temperature of gas when `200 J` of heat is added in it. (Atmospheric pressure `=100 kPa, R = 25//3 J//mol-K)`

The change in internal energy of the gas is
`DeltaU = 5//2 nRT (DeltaT)`
`=5//2 xx 2R xx (DeltaT) = 5R xx DeltaT`
The heat given to the gas `= 200J`
The work done by the gas is
`W = DeltaQ - DeltaU`
`=200J - 5R DeltaT` ………..(i)
As the distance moved by the piston is `50cm,:.` the work done is
`DeltaW = PDeltaV = PA Deltax = 10^(5) xx 10 xx 10^(-4) xx 50 xx 10^(-2)` ........(ii)
From (i) and (ii)
`DeltaT = 18//5K = 3.6 K`

Consider a vertical tube open at both ends. The tube consistss of two parts, each of different cross sections and each part having a piston which can move smoothly in respective tubes. The two piston which can move smoothly in respective tube wire. The piston are joined together by an inextensible wire. The combined mass of the two piston is 5 kg and area of cross section of the upper piston is 10 cm^(2) greater than that of the lower piston. Amount of gas enclosed by the pistons is 1 mol . When the gas is heated slowly, pistons move by 50 cm . Find the rise in the temperature of the gas in the form X//R K , where R is universal gas constant. Use g = 10 m//s^(2) and outside pressure = 10^(5) N//m^(2)) .

A gas is enclosed in a cylindrical vessel fitted with a frictionless piston.the gas is slowly heated for some time. During the process, 10 J of heat is suopplied and the piston is found to move out 10cm. Find the increase in the internal energy of the gas , the area of cross section of the gas, the area of cross section of the cylinder=4 cm^(4) and the atmospheric pressure =100 kPa.

Two moles of an ideal monoatomic gas are confined within a cylinder by a massless and frictionless spring loaded piston of cross-sectional area 4 xx 10^(-3)m^(2) . The spring is, initially in its relaxed state. Now the gas is heated by an electric heater, placed inside the cylinder, for some time. During this time, the gas expands and does 50J of work in moving the piston through a distance 0.10m . The temperature of the gas increases by 50K . Calculate the spring constant and the heat supplied by the heater. P_(atm) = 1 xx 10^(5)N//m^(2)R = 8.314 J//mol-K
