The magnifying power of a telescope in n...

The magnifying power of a telescope in normal adjustment is 20 , and the focal length of the eyepiece is `5xx10^(-2)` m. what is the magnifying power obtained when the system is adjusted so that the final image of a distant object is formed `25xx10^(-2)` m away from the eyepiece?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`m=(f_o)/(f_e)`
or, `20 =(f_o)/(5xx10^(-2)`
or, `f_o =20xx5xx10^(-2) =1m `
Now, magnifying power of the telescope ,
`m=f_o(1/D+1/(f_e))=1xx(1/(25xx10^(-2))+1/(5xx10^(-2)))=24`
