10.1g of HCl is mixed with 6.3g of `NaHCO_(3)`. Calculate the mass of `CO_(2)` released if the residual mixture is found to weigh 12.1 g.

Text Solution

Reaction: ltBrgt According to the law of conservation of mass, mass of
`(HCl+NaHCO_(3))=` mass of `(NaCl+H_(2)O+CO_(2))`
or, `(10.1+6.3)g`=mass of `(NaCl+H_(2)O+CO_(2))`
or, 16.4g=12.1g+mass of `CO_(2)` `therefore` mass of `CO_(2)=4.3g`
