The element, boron has two isotopes (`""^(10)B and ""^(11)B`). Calculate the natural abundance o the isotopes of boron if the atomic mass of the element be 10.8.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let s consider the natural abundance of `""^(10)B` is x%.
`therefore` The average atomic mass of
`B=(x xx10+(100-x)xx11)/(100)" "therefore 10.8=(1100-x)/(100)`
`therefore x=20`, the natural abundance of two isotopes of boron,
`""^(10)B and ""^(11)B` in 20% and (100-20)=80% respectively.
