5g of an impure sample of common slat on treatment with excess of `AgNO_(3)` solution yields 9.812g of `AgCl`. What is the percentgae impurity of that sample ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`NaCl(58.5g)+AgNO_(3) +AgCl darr(143.5g)`
143.5 g AgCl is obtained from 58.5 g NaCl
`therefore` 1g of AgCl is obtained from `(58.5)/(143.5)g" "NaCl`
`therefore` 9.812g of AgCl is obtained from `(58.5xx9.812)/(143.5)=4g` naCl
Percentage of purity in the sample is `=((4)/(5)xx100)=80%`
`therefore`So, perrcentage impurity=(100-80)%=20%.
