The bromine atom possesses 35 electrons....

The bromine atom possesses 35 electrons. It contains 6 electrons in 2p orbital. 6 electrons in 3p orbital and 5 electron in 4p orbital. Which of these electron experiences the lowest effective nuclear charge?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The value of n for the 4p electrons is highest and hence they are the furthest from the nucleus and thus experience lowest effect nuclear charge. In a given orbit, for same type of subshells, higher the value of n, lower is the value of effective nuclear charge.
