What criterion is followed for the selection of the stationary phase in chromatography?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The stationary phase is selected in such a way that the impurities are adsorbed more strongly on the stationary phase than the element to be purified. So, when the solvent is made to run through the column, the impurities are retained by the stationary phase while the pure component is easily eluted.
