When a bullet is fired from a gun , the gun gives a kick in the backwark direction Explain .

Text Solution

Firing of a gun is due to internal forces . Internal forces do not change the momentum of the system . Before firing `m_(1)u_(1)+m_(2)u_(2)=0`
Since system is at rest after firing
`m_(1)v_(1)+m_(2)v_(2)=0("or")m_(1)v_(1)=-m_(2)v_(2)`. So gun and bullet will move in opposite directions to satisfy law of conservation of linear momentum .
