Why does a heavy rifle not recoil as strongly as a light rifle using the same catridges ?

Veloctiy (or) recoil `v=(mv)/(V)` i.e ., ratio of momentum of bullet to mass of gun . If mass of gun is high then velcity of recoil is less with same cartridge .
