A ball falls from a height of 10 m on to a hard horizontal floor and repeatedly bounces . If the coefficient of restitution is `(1)/(sqrt(2))` , then what is the total distance travelled by the ball before it ceases to rebound ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Height from which the ball is allowed to fall , h = 10 m
Coeffoicient restitution between the hard horizontal floor and ball , `e=1//sqrt(2)`
`therefore` Total distanace travelled by the ball before it ceases to rebound ,
`d=h[(1+e^(2))/(1-e^(2))]=10[(1+(1//sqrt(2))^(2))/(1-(1//sqrt(2))^(2))]=30m`
