An elevator is supported by a single cable. There is no counter weight.The.elevator receives passengers atthe ground floor and takes them to the top floor, where they disembark. New passengers enter and are taken down to the ground floor. During this round trip, when is the tension in the cable equal to the weight of the elevator plus passengers ? When greater ? When less ?

An engineer is designing a spring to be placed at the bottom of an elevator shaft, if the elevator cable should break at a height h above the top of the spring, calculate the required value of the spring constant k, so that passsengers undergo an acceleration of no more than 10 g when brought to rest, Let M be the total mass of the elevator and passengers

You are designing an elevator for a hospital. The force exerted on a passenger by the floor of the elevator is not to exceed 1.60 times the passenger's weight. The elevator accelerates upwards with constant acceleration for a distance of 3.0 m and then starts to slow down. What is the maximum speed (in ms^(-1) ) of the elevator?

A boy in the elevator shoots a bullet in a vertical upward direction from a height of 1.5 m above the floor of the elevator. There is no roof in the elevator. The floor of the elevator is at 50 m from ground at the instant when velocity of the elevator is 10 m/s in upward direction. The bullet strikes the floor of the elevator in 2 seconds. The initial speed of the bullet is 15 m/s relative to the elevator. Q. Find the displacement of the bullet relative to ground during its flight:
