Define stress and strain....

Define stress and strain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The force per unit area is called as stress.
Stress, `sigma = ("Force")/("Area") = (F)/(A)`
The fractional change in the size of the object, when a force is applied, strain measures the degree of deformation.
Strain, `epsilon = ("change in size")/("original size") = (Delta l)/(l)`
