Two forces 7 kgwt and 4 kgwt act at a point making an angle of `60^(@)` with each other. Find the magnitude and direction of the resultant.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given:
P=7 kgwt, Q=4 kgwt, `theta=60^(@)`
The magnitude of the resultant
`R=(p^2+Q^2+2PQcostheta)^(1//2),cos60^(@)=1//2`
`=(7^2+4^2+cancle2xx7xx4xx1//2)^(1//2),sin60^(@)=0.866=sqrt(49+16+28)`
i.e. R=9.64 kgwt.
The direction of the resultant with the force 'P'
`prop=tan^(-1)((Qsintheta)/(P+Qcostheta))=tan^(-1)((4xx0.866)(7+4xx1//2))=tan^(-1)((3.464)/(9))`
`=tan^(-1)(0.3849)`
`prop21^(@)5` w.r.t `vecP`
