Two forces 12N and 5N are acting at right angles to each other. Find the magnitude and direction of the resultant force.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given P=12N
Q=5N
`theta=90^(@),cos90^(@)=0`
Resultant `R=(P^2+Q^2)=sqrt(12^2+5^2)=13N`
direction of resultant `prop="tan"^(-1)((Qsin90^(@))/(P+Qcos90^(@)))`
i.e., `prop=tan^(-1)(Q/P)=tan^(-1)((5)/(12))`
`=tan^(-1)(0.4167)=22^(@)36` w.r.t the force `vecP`
