Is static force a slef adjusting force?

When two surfaces are in contact with each other, there arises a locking of the two surfaces due to ridges in the surfaces. When a force is applied to slide with respect to each other, static friction increases. When a graph of force of friction is plotted along the `y`-axis and applied force along the `x`-axis, a straight line with a constant slope is obtained. However, for a particular applied force, static friction becomes maximum and one body begins to slide over the other. This maximum static friction is called limiting friction. When the bodies start showing relative motion, force of friction reduces and becomes kinetic and remains constant irrespective of the force applied.
