Explain why (a) the blood pressure is humans is greater at the feet than at the brain.
(b) Atmospheric pressure at a height of about 6 km decreases to nearly half its value at the sea level through the 'height' of the atmospheric is more than 100 km.
(c) Hydrostatic pressure is a scalar quantity even though pressure is force divided by area , and force is a vector.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) the height of the blood column is more for the feet as compard to that for the brain.
Consequently, the blood pressure in himas in greater at the feet than at the brain.
(b). The variation of air-density with height is not linear. So, pressure also does not reduce linearly with height. the air pressure at a height h is given by `P=P_(0)e^(-alphah)` where `P_(0)` represents the pressure air at sea level and `alpha` is a constant. ltbr. (c). Due to applied force on liqud, the pressure is tranmitted equally in all directions inside the liquid. that is why there is no fixed direction for the pressure due to liquid. Hehcen hydrostatic pressure is a scalar quantity.
