Does the number of moles of reaction products increase, decrease of remain same when each of the following equilibria is subjected to a decrease in pressure by increasing the volume?
`CaO(s)+CO_(2)(g) hArr CaCO_(3)(s)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In this reaction `CO_(2)` is consumed as it reacts with CaO and forms `CaCO_(3)`. So, the reaction involves a decrese in volumes of the system. Therefore, increasing volume of the system will favour the reverse reaction, thereby decreasing the number of moles of `CaCO_(3)`.
