Calculate the pH of the following solution:
0.3g of NaOH dissolved in water to give 200 mL of solution.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Concentration of `NaOH=(0.3)/(40)xx(1000)/(200)=0.0375(M)`
[since gram formula mass of NaOH=40`g*mol^(-1)`]
In this solution, `[OH^(-)]=0.0375(M)`
`therefore pOH=-log_(10)[OH^(-)]=-log_(10)(0.0375)=1.42`
and `pH=14-1.42=12.58`.
