Calculate the pH of the following soluti...

Calculate the pH of the following solution:
1mL of 13.6 (M) HCl is diluted with water to give 1 litre of solution.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Number of millimoles of HCl in 1 mL of 13.6(M) HCl solution`=1xx13.6` millimoles
This amount of HCl is present in 1L solution. So, the molarity of the solution`=(13.6)/(1000)=1.36xx10^(-2)(M)`
In this solution, `[H^(+)]=1.36xx10^(-2)(M)`
`therefore pH=-log_(10)[H^(+)]=-log_(10)(1.36xx10^(-2))=1.86`
