Why is `(CH_(3))_(3)C^(oplus)` more stable than `CH_(3)CH_(2)^(oplus)`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to the + I effect of three electron donating `CH_(3)` groups, `CH_(3)overset(oplus)(C)` is more stable than `CH_(3)overset(oplus)(C)H_(2)` (which contains only one `CH_(3)` group attached to `C^(oplus)`). Furthermore `(CH_(3))_(3)C^(oplus)` is stablised by 9 hyperconjugative strutures, while `CH_(3)overset(oplus)(C)H_(2)` is stabilised by only three hyperconjugative structures.
