Can you store copper sulphate solution in a zinc pot ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We cannot store `CuSO_(4)` solution in a zinc pot because zinc has greater reducing power than Cu due to its smaller standard reduction potential than that of Cu. Thus, zinc will displace copper from `CuSO_(4)` solution :
`CuSO_(4)(aq)+Zn(s)rarr ZnSO_(4)(aq)+Cu(s)`
