The order of equivalent conductance at i...

The order of equivalent conductance at infinite dilution for `LiCl, NaCl and KCl` is -

A

`LiCl gt NaCl gt KCl`

B

`KCl gt NaCl gt LiCl`

C

`NaCl gt KCl gt LiCl`

D

`LiCl gt KCl gt NaCl`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Smaller the ion highe is the degree of hydration for the ions. Again, with the higher degree of hydration, effective size of the ions increases accordingly. Therefore, among the given cations `K^(+), Na^(+) & Li^(+)`, the degree of hydration is highest for `Li^(+)` and lowest for `K^(+)`. Thus the order of mobility : `K^(+) gt Na^(+) gt Li^(+)`. Hence at infinite dilution, the order of equivalent conductance is : `KCl gt NaCl gt LiCl`.
