Consider the reaction CaCO(3)(s) hArr ...

Consider the reaction
`CaCO_(3)(s) hArr CaO(s) +CO_(2)(g)`
in closed container at equilibrium. What would be the effect of addition of `CaCO_(3)` on the equilibrium concentration of `CO_(2)`?

A

Increase

B

Decreases

C

Data is not sufficient to predict it

D

Remains unaffected

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

K for the reation is given by `K=[CO_(2)].` Because concentration of solids taken to be unity. Since `[CaCO_(3)]` and `[CaO]` do not figure in the expression. There will be no effect of addition of `CaCO_(3)`.
