At equilibrium of the reaction
`2X(g)+Y(g) hArr X_(2)Y(g)`
the number of moles of `X_(2)Y` at equilibrium is affected by the

A

temperature and pressure

B

Temperature only

C

pressure only

D

temperature , pressure and catalyst.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Backward reaction is a dissociation reaction and hence endothermic . Thus, forward reaction is exothermic and proceed with decrease in number of moles of gaseous molecules. Hence high pressure and high temperature will favour the forward reaction.
