Show the g=(GM)/(R^(2))...

Show the `g=(GM)/(R^(2))`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let M be the mass of the Earth and R be its radius
We know that `F=-(GMm)/(r^(2))`
where 'm' is a mass body very close to the surface of the Earth.
Force of gravity on the mass 'm' is F' = mg
However F= F'
Therefore `mg=(GMm)/(R^(2))`
i.e., `g=(GM)/(R^(2))`
