The ionic conductance of alkali metal ca...

The ionic conductance of alkali metal cations increases with increase in atomic mass from lithi to caesium. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The alkali metal cations are monovalent`(M^(+))` Down metal the group, the catinic size increases and as a result, the tendency to get hydrated decreases. Since the hydration of cation decreases the ionic conductance, this means that the ionic conductance of alkali metal cations incresases with increase in atomic mass.
