A water tank filed with water has a hole in its wall at a distance of 2.5 m below its free surface. Find the velocity of efflux of water from this office. If the diameter of the orifice is 5 mm, find the rate of flow of water `(g =9.8 ms^(-2)).`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

h=2.5 m
We know that `v_("effux")=sqrt(2gH)=sqrt(2 xx 9.8 xx 2.5)=2.21ms^(-1)`
Rate of flow of water `=(a_(v)), a="area of cross-section"`
`=((piD^(2))/(4))v=(3.14 xx (5 xx 10^(-3))^(2) xx 2.21)/(4)=43.37 xx 10^(-6)m^(3)//s`
=0.4334 litres/where 1 litre `=10^(-3)m^(3)=43.4mL//s.`
