When a tree is cut, the cut is made on the side facing the direction in which the tree is required to fall. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Because the side on whcilh the cut is made is no longer supported by the normal force from the bottom, therefore torque acts on the tree such that it falls on the side as antitipated. The torque about the point where the cut is made causes rotation of the tree about the point.
