Why is it much easier to balance a meter scale on your finger tip than balancing on a match stick ?

Force a metre scale centre of gravity is much above its base. On theotehr hand, the match stick has its centre of gravity much lower as compare to a metre scale. Higher the centre of the gravity easier if is to balance.
